The Quarry Regulations 1999 encompass a huge range of health and safety issues: quarry design and geotechnical inspection, noise, dust, and employee welfare. Our excellent track record relating to these has been the result of frequent internal auditing of management guidelines, the assistance of our ISO 9001 Quality Management System and the infrequent surprise visits from the Health & Safety Executive Inspectorate. Environmental protection is treated with equal importance. Dust control and noise reduction measures have allowed us to comply with Scottish Environmental Protection Agency consents.
As part of a carbon offset to our activies the company has planted 56 000 trees on its agricultural land.
The above measures have helped us to maintain a safe working environment for all employees and visitors to the site. The company has demonstrated the competency of its staff to HSE with three key members (see news section) undertaking NVQ qualifications in Health, Safety and Environmental Management which were successfully completed in July 2007.
